In “Settings,” scroll down and tap on “Security.” When this screen opens up, switch the “Apps from Unknown Sources” to “on,” as shown here. The first step is to go into “Settings,” either by using the “Settings” icon on the Fire’s home screen, or by swiping down from the top and tapping on “Settings” there. These steps will work for the Fire 7, Fire HD 8, and Fire HD 10. So, just to make it perfectly clear, I’m going to run through the instructions one more time. That could make a considerable difference in whether or not someone decides to buy the thing, after all. Granted, the Fire doesn’t come from Amazon with the Google stuff pre-installed, but you would have thought that these reviewers could have spared a sentence or two to note that it can be added afterward with the greatest of ease. You have to change just one setting, then download some packages through the web browser. You don’t have to root it, you don’t have to hack it in any way. As I noted in a previous post, it’s not only possible but easy to install the Play Store and Google’s applications to any tablet running a modern version of the Fire operating system. It makes me wonder just how much research any of those review writers ever bothered to do, given that restriction hasn’t actually been in effect for months now. With the new $150 Fire HD 10 tablet finally shipping, the first reviews of it are starting to pop up all over the place-and almost without exception, every review says that it’s a great tablet, but will unfortunately only let you install apps from Amazon’s store. UPDATE: As of, Google had blocked uncertified devices from accessing the Play Store. See this post for an effective workaround to allow Google Play to run on your Fire.

It's still not perfect on all the edges, but not bad. The Cricut software was actually really helpful in fine-tuning the size to fit the recess in the fins just right. In all, three layers of the prepreg were added. The fin can is currently in the oven curing. I plan on putting a camera on the rocket and I figure that no spin = good alignment.Īfter a pretty busy month seriously lacking in rocket projects, progress has been made. One thing I have found with 3D prints, there are definite steps to certain dimensions based on the width of the extrusion.īased on my measurements my 98mm fins appear to be very straight. For my next 38mm MD, I am going to extend the length of the jigs to cover nearly the entire fin, that should prevent any twisting as long as I have a good width of the fin slot. But at least it appeared they were all in alignment, even if a bit twisted. Doing some tests with the 38mm fins, the deeper the engagement of the jig (i.e., the longer the length of the fin held by the jig) the less twist I could apply to the top jig relative to the bottom. However that was mostly solved by adding a layer of tape on the fins, being careful to keep them all symmetrical. With my jig if the fit wasn't nice and snug over the fins, there was some play - I could twist the top jig relative to the bottom one. Watheyak, as you mention the key is to come up with a jig that solves exactly the issue you described, keeping the jigs centered over each other. The jury is still out as to whether I was successful in this regard or not. I'll elaborate on how I'm trying to control that in my next post. The other issue that keeps me up at night is that none of this is going to work at all if the fins aren't on exactly straight or if the fillets aren't exactly the radius (.25") that was specified in Fusion. DXF file, which can be imported into the Cricut Design Space software. I'm pretty new to Fusion still, so a big thanks to Bob Heninger for helping me figure the sheet metal part out. I used the sheet metal tool to simulate the carbon fiber in order to be able to convert it to a flat pattern. So next I modeled the whole thing in Fusion. Due to this fact, I peel the carbon fiber and it's carrier off the Cricut carrier sheet in one piece. In this case I'll be using unidirectional prepreg that comes stuck to it's own carrier paper. Some of the Hexcel spread tow products that are becoming more popular would be a good candidate. But some of the newer, more modern products come on a carrier of their own. Regular carbon fiber would come off in shreds. This method wouldn't work for all carbon fiber, as it has to be stuck down to a carrier sheet to be cut, then peeled off after the cutting is complete. It's also capable of adding quite a bit of pressure to the wheel. The Maker has a cutting wheel attachment that is similar to what I'd be using to cut it anyway. I finally decided that I might be able to cut the carbon fiber on our Cricut Maker. More pondering and laying awake happened. Plus better aesthetics and style points, right? Having a nice clean edge at the border of the pocket would help making sure it stays in place. Thanks to a very talented co-worker, I have four fins that are straight-up rocket art.īecause of that curve in the corner of the pocket, it occurred to me that it would be nice to have a very precise and accurate shape for the tip to tip reinforcement. This pocket, plus the bevels, made for some complex machining requirements. This project started by modelling the fin in Fusion 360. As illustrated in the link above, the tip to tip reinforcement sits in a pocket machined into the face of the fin. In this case it's Garolite G-11, just like in his thread. So my fins start with a high temperature core, and are one piece, rather than a separate leading edge. Charles was fascinated by the story of Alexander, epic hero and indomitable military leader of ancient Greece. Vasco da Lucena Giving his Work to Charles the Bold, Master of the Jardin de vertueuse consolation, about 1470–75 Collectors mounted such cuttings into albums, allowing the viewer to concentrate solely on the imagery. It was a common practice in the 19th century for collectors to trim away all traces of surrounding text in illuminated manuscripts, as here. Notice the two large stones on his head, a sword through his neck, and a grill and fire at his feet. His exact identity is unknown, but the presence of multiple instruments of torture identify him as a martyr. In this image, a male figure forms the letter I. By revealing the ways in which manuscripts have been repurposed both conceptually and physically, this exhibition explores their long and eventful history since the Middle Ages. They have survived wars, fires, floods, religious conflict, political tumult, the invention of printing, and changes in taste.Īt times valued for their beauty, for their spiritual significance, or simply for the strength of their parchment pages, the books, leaves, and cuttings in this exhibition have been transformed again and again to suit the changing expectations of their various audiences and owners. They were cut into pieces, hung on walls, and glued into albums. Hear a conservator describe why collectors would have cut illuminations from their manuscripts.įor hundreds of years, medieval manuscripts have been bought and sold, gifted and stolen, preserved and rearranged, loved and forgotten, hidden and displayed. Initial I: A Martyr Saint, cutting from an antiphonal, Lippo Vanni, about 1350–75 But it also earned Manet fame and patronage. It caused outrage with its frank depiction of nudity in a contemporary setting and was scorned by the high-minded salon juries and middle-class audiences of the era. The works that focused on scenes of public leisure - especially scenes of cafés and cabarets - often conveyed the new sense of alienation experienced by the inhabitants of the first modern metropolis.Įdouard Manet's Le déjeuner sur l'herbe (Luncheon on the Grass) was probably the most controversial artwork of the nineteenth century. Impressionism records the effects of the massive mid-19 th-century renovation of Paris, led by civic planner Georges-Eugène Haussmann, which included the city's newly constructed railway stations wide, tree-lined boulevards that replaced the formerly narrow, crowded streets and large, deluxe apartment buildings.Their art did not necessarily rely on realistic depictions. The Impressionists sought to capture the former - the optical effects of light - to convey the fleeting nature of the present moment, including ambient features such as changes in weather, on their canvases. Scientific thought in the Impressionist era was beginning to recognize that what the eye perceived and what the brain understood were two different things.Getting away from depictions of idealized forms and perfect symmetry, they concentrated on the world as they saw it, which was imperfect in a myriad of ways. Picking up on the ideas of Gustave Courbet, the Impressionists aimed to be painters of the real: they aimed to extend the possible subjects for paintings. For this reason, many critics faulted Impressionist paintings for their unfinished appearance and seemingly amateurish quality. They abandoned traditional three-dimensional perspective and rejected the clarity of form that had previously served to distinguish the more important elements of a picture from the lesser ones. The Impressionists used looser brushwork and lighter colors than previous artists. All of these moves predicted the emergence of modern art, and the whole associated philosophy of the avant-garde. The Impressionists also rejected official exhibitions and painting competitions set up by the French government, instead organizing their own group exhibitions, which the public were initially very hostile to. This often meant using much lighter and looser brushwork than painters had up until that point, and painting out of doors, en plein air. Instead, as their name suggests, the Impressionists tried to get down on canvas an “impression” of how a landscape, thing, or person appeared to them at a certain moment in time. They weren’t interested in painting history, mythology, or the lives of great men, and they didn’t seek perfection in visual appearances. At some point in the 1860s, a group of young artists decided to paint, very simply, what they saw, thought, and felt. Impressionism is perhaps the most important movement in the whole of modern painting. In a statement, the Indian Navy said, “ This demonstration of naval prowess underscores India’s commitment to safeguarding its national interests, maintaining regional stability, and fostering cooperative partnerships in the maritime domain. And in all Battlegroups, individual Regiments or Battalions could be detached to deal with low-level insurgency or a specific focused target, or to support a Navy operation-although Imperial tactical thinking did restrict the use of Armor Regiments to full-scale Battlegroup offensives.Days after the Indian Navy’s two aircraft carriers INS Vikramaditya and the indigenous INS Vikrant were spotted by satellite imagery experts sailing together in the Arabian Sea, the Indian Navy today unveiled that the mission was part of a multi-carrier operations demonstration involving both carrier groups, including more than 35 aircraft off India’s eastern seaboard. For instance, the 1st Tapani Assault Battlegroup at Tallaan were the primary Imperial Army presence in Tapani sector, representing a largely defensive deployment that due to political considerations nevertheless warranted a Major General in command. Of course, not all battlegroup deployments were for offensive operations, and not every operation required a full battlegroup. Imperial battlegroups were usually deployed in full strength in situations where a sizeable enemy force had to be destroyed in the field: they were capable of stand-alone operations where a well-organized military resistance controlled an area of a planet, and they also served as the primary tactical subdivisions of a Corps deployed for a full-scale planetary conquest campaign. The Galactic Empire used the term for both naval and army units. In the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the name was applied to units within ground armies, though these often had fleets attached to them for galactic deployment with which the name was used in conjunction. It was most commonly used to denote groups of naval flotillas, commonly grouped fleets, and in a few cases, such as in the Republic Navy during the Clone War, referred to specific fleets themselves. The wing had forty pilots, twenty-five sensor techs, twenty-five controllers and one hundred and ten ground crewmen. These wings were also stationed in prefabricated garrison bases. Six flights made two squadrons of TIE/LNs, while three flights made a TIE bomber squadron and one flight of TIE/fcs served as spotters. The result was this downsized wing of 40 TIEs organized into ten flights. The Army insisted on its own wing of support fighters for ground missions, while the Navy wanted to keep control of its TIEs. The Plescinia Entertainments CS-Mark 10 allowed players to control full assault groups while playing the Great Battles of the Empire series. Ī battlegroup could also be augmented per their Order of Battle (OB), in which case the additional units were commanded by the battlegroup's second-in-command. In addition there were 188 support personnel and two security platoons of 76 troopers for a total of 274 personnel. A Battlegroup had the usual principle staff of five officers (SG1 to SG5), but in addition the SG5 (Battlegroup "Headquarters" officer) had a 4-man "substaff" (SG51 to SG54). Ī Battlegroup's commanding officer (CO) was typically at least a High Colonel, although it was possible for the CO to be as senior as a Major General (the 1st Tapani Assault Battlegroup based on Tallaan was one such example). During the first years of the Empire, a Battlegroup was composed of 8,192 troopers, and was composed of four regiments. A Battlegroup was committed only for major offenses against a known concentration of enemy resistance. Although precise numbers varied depending on the specific type of unit, the overall strength of most Battlegroups was on the order of roughly 15,000 men, including a little better than 10,000 front-line troops. 2.5 Rebel Alliance/New Republic/Galactic AllianceĪ typical Imperial battlegroup consisted of four Regiments, and four Battlegroups in turn formed a standard Corps.
